There are eight food stores within the vicinity of my appartment. The closest is just a six minute walk. One takes 25 minutes to reach on foot or five minutes by car. Which is a sound reminder of 10.000 steps we ought to mtake on a daily basis.
Most food resellers are part of a few nationwide supply chains. Constantly numerous items are on offer, Billions (!) are being invested to win over, convince and make customers stay. In order to excellerate shopping automated payment services are available. However, the Rule of all human relations is “Time binds!” But no one seems to have time to share with us. Not unlike an animal in a slaughterhouse we are being pushed forward. Hurry, hurry! Malfunctioning automated payment is a burden on employees and on customers..
My choise of shop is where I am greeted with a friendly “Hello”, “Good morning” or such. Some people there even know my name and we share short conversations. I shop where I meet real nice people, briefly but to the full satisfaction of my social needs. “How are you?”, “How is the new appartment?”, “How do your kids manage in school?” The man-man interface is of paramount importance. It serves marketing better then the full technical apparatus. This is not about social romance. This is about remaining human on a sympathetic level.
Everybody is capable of being friendly. This is the open secret of mom and pap stores, the local diner and the family run deli. Everybody can share this.
